Monarchy: Feudal lords rule their estates from towers of stone, gathering power and influence in service to the king.
Only a powerful leader will be able to rebuild the empire. Even worse, great acts of evil have been performed in the capital, which has turned into a stronghold of undead creatures and unspeakable horrors. Human lands are in chaos, and bandits roam the countryside. Battlefields and ruins of the empire litter the lands. Generally, this is the safest age.įallen Empire: The waning days of greatness have given way to Interregnum. The brigands which were a scourge of the land in earlier times have been almost completely eliminated. A huge capital is being built from which the Emperor rules. Civilization is advancing at a rapid pace, forests are being cut down to build cities for the growing population, new technologies are invented, and military units developed to deal with the remaining aggressive wildlife. It's a time of heroes, pioneers and cunning brigands.Įmpire: The lands of Elysium have been united into an Empire, forged from the colonies of the pioneers from before. Full-fledged cities are rare, but settlements and hamlets are everywhere. This is quite a difficult age, especially for those factions that rely on gold.Īgricultural: In this age, mankind has mostly subdued the wildlife of Elysium, and the more high-fantasy elements have vanished. Settlements are few and far between, cities are non-existent, magic is at its strongest, and the wildlife is at its deadliest. Then we can choose the era that we want to play in. We are going to leave it at that for now. Here we can first adjust the map size, which defaults to medium. When we start a new game, we are first greeted by this screen: It's entirely possible that you get wiped out six turns in because your citadel got spawned right besides an ancient forest. Also, you might already have guessed it, but the game is quite difficult. You take control of a leader at the helm of a small faction, and compete with up to 16 other heroes (or villains), who can be controlled by either the AI or other players, to recruit units and Commanders, summon weird creatures, cast world shattering magic, acquire ancient artifacts, and generally do as the title already says: conquer Elysium! And that's what we are going to be doing. If there's any concept from mythology or fantasy you like, then it's probably present in Conquest of Elysium in one way or another. There are dwarfs, necromancers, elementals, Cthulhu cults, Gauls, Japanese ogres, medieval knights, mermaids, Romans, biblical giants, demons, undead, ancient Greek titans, mages, Aztecs, the Great Old Ones, vampires and literally hundreds upon hundreds of other creatures roaming Elysium and the neighbouring planes of reality. The setting the game takes place in is the world of Elysium, a wild hodge-podge of all kinds of different mythological and fantasy concepts. Conquest of Elysium 4 is a turn based fantasy strategy game with rogue-like elements, made by the folks at Illwinter Game Design, a swedish company that also developed the Dominions games.
